Essential oils that are used properly can help cool, ease, and soothe the burning, stinging, and itching of mosquito bites. Some of these essential oils need to be diluted for safe use so be sure to check labels and read instructions carefully before using.

Here are some of the essential oils that are good for mosquito bites:

1.Mint Essential Oils

Mint essential oils like spearmint and peppermint are great for insect bites. Menthol is the main constituent of mint essential oils. Mint-based oils have a cooling effect which is actually good for relieving the itch and pain of a mosquito bite. Witch hazel is a water that can be distilled from the twigs and leaves of the Hamamelis virginiana plant. It is a natural astringent that can be found in health stores, grocery stores, and pharmacies. Proper Use of Essential Oils

Direct application

Direct application of essential oils should be avoided for the safety of use. Most of these essential oils need to be diluted or mixed in a carrier oil before applying to the skin.

Lavender is one of the few essential oils that can be directly applied to the skin.

Dilute spray

Direct application of essential oils may cause a stinging and burning sensation on the skin which can possibly worsen the symptoms of a mosquito bite.

Fill a spray bottle with water and mix about 2 or 3 drops of essential oil in equal drops of liquid carrier oil for every ounce of water. Shake the mixture before using. Spray on the mosquito bite.

Ointment

Add a couple of drops of essential oil to a carrier oil such as jojoba oil or coconut oil. Add 2 to 3 drops per ounce and mix well.

Bath

The essential oil bath is recommended for several mosquito bites all over the body.
Simply add 15 drops of the essential oils mentioned above or you can also do a combination of these essential oils to the same amount of carrier oil. Shake well then add to your bath.
